Karate Board Meeting Minutes

Attending: Lucy Anderson, Russell Christie, Harlan Gastel, Sadia Madjid, Riad Sifaoui, Marianne McAvenna, Hassan Mouterfi, Marzouk Hamitouche, Christina Pliatsikas, Jean-Yves Anis, Farrah Khan.  

  

Focus Items

 

The main aim is to establish our Karate club within the bigger, International organisations that make up the Karate family.

 

We have the option to register our class within the charitable organisation A.S.R.A, as we utilise their premises for training purposes. This will entitle us to equipment paid for and provided by the Governing bodies; and will also put us in touch with officials who are able to Grade us at the later stages.

                                                          

The I.S.K.E. is the International Karate Organisation that our Karate club has also now officially become a part of. Our club will therefore now be known as the I.S.K.E. Scotland branch. Because of this, we have decided as a team to structure our club in an official way.

 

The main agenda is the construction of a Board to officiate our club, and have names of people that will represent us.

Marzouk Hamitouche is the official representative of the I.S.K.E. organisation in Glasgow. See website http://fudoshinkaratedokaseha.wifeo.com for more information.

Main aims to develop our seriousness and status as a club:

1. Need to have an official club address.

 Achieved:- We have kindly been given the address of the Community Centre that we train at by project manager Mr Sheh:

     2.Need to create an official Club account for prospective grants/funding.

 

Still to achieve:- There is a special process for this kind of account at any bank. All board members may have access to this account, dependent on what is decided as a team.

3. Need to establish a Board within the club by voting in a democratic fashion.

 

Achieved:-  Positions of responsibility

 

• Chairperson: role- acts as representative of our club; elected- Marzouk Hamitouche
• Vice Chairperson: role- responsible for assisting the chairperson, and serve as chairperson in their absence; elected- Harlan Gastel.
• Secretary: role- to provide administrative assistance and support the chairperson in their management of the club; elected- Farrah Khan. 
• Treasurers: role- responsible for the club’s finances; elected- Sadia Madjid and Christina Pliatsikas.
• External Affairs Management: role- responsible for resource management and public relations; elected- Russell Christie.
• Fundraising Committee: role- to lead the Board in efforts that attract money and services that will enhance the club; elected- Lucy Anderson, Hassan Mouterfi, and Marianne McAvenna.

• Ordinary Board Members: role- to provide strategic input into decisions around the organisational design of the club; elected- Riad Sifaoui, Jean-Yves Anis, Mikel Bastarrika, and Garcia Massengo. 

 

4. Need to register ourselves with Glasgow City Council.

 

Still to achieve:- We will fill in the necessary paperwork that will allow us to register the club so we can apply for grants/funding for future projects.

It is also of utmost importance to follow one branch of the Karate discipline, so the moves are consistent and no confusion is encountered. The Karate that we have chosen to follow is: Shotokan.
